The most recent in the Code Geass series, Code Geass: Akito the Exiled Chapter 3: Kagayaku Mono Ten Yori Otsu (Something Sparkling Falling from Heaven) was released in cinemas on May 2. At the same time as the movie began screening, a surprise announcement was made.
The series was first announced as having a total of four chapters but will now be five chapters long. On May 2, the third chapter, Kagayaku Mono Ten Yori Otsu, began screening and—following on from the fourth chapter, Nikushimi no Kioku Kara, which it has already been decided will open on July 4, 2015—the fifth and final chapter, Itoshiki Monotachi e, will be produced. The fifth chapter will be shown nationwide in the same manner as the preceding films beginning this fall. As a result, including chapter 3, three new Code Geass: Akito the Exiled movies will be released during 2015. The year of Akito the Exiled is certainly getting busy.
In addition to being announced together with the nationwide screenings, the news was also posted on the series’ official website. The reason they went so far as the make this change was not explained, however, the series’ popularity is high and it’s thought that the story developed in a larger direction than expected during production.
Another Sunrise-produced anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam UC, was also expanded from six to seven chapters. If something is popular, then you make more and can feel even more happiness flowing through the fans. The following message was posted on the official site: “All of the creative team is hard at work to make something that will leave fans fully satisfied.” The story for chapter 4 has also been revealed on the website. The war between Euro Britannia and the EU reaches a big turning point and the fate of Akito and the others looks like it will undergo some turbulent developments leading up to chapter 5. Expectations are rising for chapter 4 in July and then chapter 5 in the fall.
Code Geass: Akito the Exiled was announced as a new showcase Code Geass project in January 2012. This ambitious new project not only features a series of different characters to those who have appeared up to now, but also welcomes new members on the creative team. Akito the Exiled is not just one part of Code Geass, it also bears the role of expanding the series which is composed of several different works encompassing a larger world view. This fall, Akito the Exiled will come to an end. After that, will there be a new series or new additions to the story? Fans’ hopes and expectations are only going to grow from here on out.
