Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, which depicts the world of Mobile Suit Gundam in a new form, is finally becoming an anime. An event screening schedule for the first part of the series, “The Blue-Eyed Casval,” has now been released. The event will start in 13 theaters around Japan on Feb. 28, 2015. In celebration of this, product development has begun in the “1/144 Scale HG The Origin” series of Gunpla plastic models by Bandai. This was announced at Gunpla Expo which began on Nov. 20. Part 1 of the series is the “MS-06S Char Personal Zaku II,” and Part 2 is the “RTX-65 Guntank Mass Production Type.” These are completely newly designed plastic models that express the world of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin is based on the original manga by Mobile Suit Gundam character designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. Though a comic version of Mobile Suit Gundam, it contains a substantial amount of original elements, and it presents changes to the mecha as well. The products in the “1/144 Scale HG The Origin” series will contain even more weapons and movability than those of any other HG series to date.
Part 1, “MS-06S Char Personal Zaku II,” is a custom type of the MS-06F Zaku II that Char Aznable piloted during the Battle of Loum. The armored portion of its body is colored in Char’s personal shade of red, and the horn on the head signifies it as a commander’s mobile suit.
Part 2, “RTX-65 Guntank Mass Production Type,” is a large assault vehicle of the Earth Federation Army. It had the highest bombardment ability of any tank in those days and is equipped with two large caliber guns. Above all, the head portion gives it its unique design.
Part 1 will release in April 2015 and Part 2 in May. Each will cost 1,836 yen (tax included).
Bandai plans to continue consecutively releasing Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin Gunpla as well. Details on specifications and the lineup including Part 3 and beyond will be announced shortly.
With 2015 also being the 35th anniversary of the release of Gunpla, it seems the film adaptation and products being developed will be content not to be missed.
