Jim Lee Comes to Japan: American Comic Legend to Hold Live Painting in Akihabara

Jim Lee, a super artist in the world of American comics, is coming to Japan and will hold a special event in Akihabara. The event, titled “AmeComi Night Jim Lee Special,” will take place on Nov. 22 at Kotobukiya Akihabara-kan.

The event will be comprised of two parts. The first will consist of a live painting by Jim Lee and a talk show. Guests for the talk show will include Dante Carver, who is also a huge fan of American comics, and sculptor Jiangyong Matsumoto, who has worked on countless figures for the Kotobukiya ArtFX series. The second part of the event will be a signing.

Jim Lee was born in 1964. He started his career as a creator of American comics at Marvel Comics. He gained popularity overnight for his dynamic compositions and character modeling and has become an artist synonymous with American comics. In addition to this, he launched Image Comics with friends and is active in finding up-and-coming artists. He also currently works jointly with DC Comics as an artist on Batman and other series. There is no doubt that this event will serve as a rare chance to see such an influential creator in person.

Participation in the event will be decided by raffle and purchase of a ticket good for either part of the event is required. Tickets cost 3,240 JPY each (tax included). Details can be found on the special site for the event. During the signing event, Jim Lee will sign printed artwork sold at the event or an item brought from home.

Also, those who attend the event and purchase an ArtFX, ArtFX+, or Bishoujo product will be entered into a raffle to win Jim Lee products.
