Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel is a monumental magical girl anime that began broadcasting in 1983. In 2013, events and goods were developed to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary, and the series’ first Blu-ray memorial box set was released in March of this year. Now, an exhibit for Akemi Takada, the character designer of the series, is coming to Ginza, Tokyo from Aug. 12 to Sept. 15. Takada herself will hold a gallery talk and signing at the exhibit.
The exhibit is being held to celebrate the publication of Koremademo Korekaramo Itsudatte Creamy Mami from Hobby Japan on Sept. 13. Orders will also be taken at the exhibit for high quality “Primographie” reproduction art prints that are the same size as the art on display and come numbered and signed by Takada. Many works will be on display including magazine pinups from when the anime was broadcasting.

This work of Mami in a radiant pure-white dress was used for the Pierrot Project Teleca in 1997.
Other works on display include jacket illustrations used for DVD box sets sold in the 1990s and 2000s, as well as works created just for the exhibit.
On Aug. 16, Takada will hold a gallery talk at the exhibit, and on Sept. 14, she’ll hold a signing event. On Aug. 31, a virtual meet and greet with Mami that proved very popular at past events called Mami Mami Akushu will be held. Caffe lattes that come with latte art of Creamy Mami will also be on sale in the gallery’s cafe, Cheepa’s Cafe. The walls in the stairways will also be decorated with Takada’s art, so make sure to look here as well if you’ll be attending.
