A limited time event themed after One Piece that will run until Sept. 7 has opened at Universal Studios Japan. We bring to you a report of this event that recreates the world of One Piece through, of course, live shows, themed restaurants, and more.
One highlight of “One Piece Summer Adventure” is the “One Piece Premiere Show 2014” held in the Water World. In addition to this, there is a new audience participation street show called “One Piece Water Battle” as well as two themed restaurants: the Straw Hat Pirates’ Feast Restaurant and Sanji’s Pirate Restaurant. In this report, we will focus on the Straw Hat Pirates’ Feast Restaurant and the “One Piece Water Battle.”
At the Straw Hat Pirates’ Feast Restaurant located inside Jurassic Park’s Discovery Restaurant, visitors will find a limited time menu, as well as shows held throughout the day starring Usopp and Brook. Of course, all the dialogue is supplied by the same voice actors from the anime series, so anime fans will be able to enjoy the shows to their heart’s content. The in-restaurant event starring Usopp and Brook was impressive in that they hussled around the restaurant and talked to many fans.
On the limited time menu is a large plate of food enough for three people called the “Amazing Meat Platter!!!,” as well as a variety of other uniquely named dishes including “Eat Meat! Huge Bone-in Steak!!,” “Eat Seafood! Delicious-Looking Grilled Fish!!,” “Eat Curry! Huge Pork!!,” and the “Super Fate Kids Plate.” There are also drinks, or course, including “It’s a Feast! Toast Bottle” which comes with a mascot of Luffy, Chopper, or Law. Many visitors were enjoying the event with a bottle themed after their favorite character in one hand.
There is also another limited time restaurant that proved popular: Sanji’s Pirate Restaurant located in Lombard’s Landing. Here, visitors will find Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates, of course, as well as Law and can stop to take commemorative photos with them. The many visitors at the restaurant included families, of course, as well as friends and couples. Differing from the Straw Hat Pirates’ Feast Restaurant, reservations are required at Sanji’s Pirate Restaurant, and at this time they are booked solid. Even when we visited, they were buried in reservations, which shows just how popular the restaurant is.
Other than the themed restaurants, there is also the new street show “One Piece Water Battle.” Being that it’s an event that parents and children can participate in, we caught sight of many parents who had brought their children. The content of the show, which is held in the One Piece Area, consists of the audience participating in practice exercises after enlisting in the navy. In the middle of practice, Luffy and Usopp appear and an extravagant water battle unfolds in front of the audience. At first, we only thought we’d get a little wet, but by the end we were overwhelmed with the amount of water and left completely soaked. Though they were completely drenched as well, the children enjoyed it. It’s a show you definitely must experience.
Though we were able to fully cover the event when we attended on opening day, the park was bustling with visitors, regardless of it being a weekday, who were buying One Piece merchandise, cosplaying, and more. We were able to talk to many of these visitors and there was a trend of many people either loving One Piece or Universal Studios Japan. The majority of visitors we talked to were year-round pass holders, many of whom had plans to also attend park events other than the One Piece event.
“One Piece Summer Adventure,” a limited time event that can be enjoyed by kids and adults, will run until Sept. 7.
