A TV anime adaptation has been greenlit for the popular manga Akatsuki no Yona by Mizuho Kusanagi that is currently serializing in the shoujo manga magazine Hana to Yume (Hakusensha). On the same day this announcement was made (July 5) the official site opened and the official Twitter account launched. The work is touted as a unique “Far East fantasy.” Though the broadcast times have yet to be announced, there will be many developments from here on for this interesting series.
The series takes place in the kingdom introduced in the Legend of the Four Dragons. The king of this kingdom has neither a prince nor queen as his heir to the throne. All he has is the 15-year-old princess Yona, whom he carefully raises. However, her world changes on her 16th birthday. Yona’s fate becomes intertwined with that of the four dragon warriors, and things begin to take off. The work is largely a fantasy romance. Currently, the series has over 1.4 million copies of the individual manga volumes in print. Because many fans have the manga, there is high anticipation for the anime.
Producing the anime is Studio Pierrot, which established a reputation for itself with its work on the historical fantasy The Twelve Kingdoms. Directing the anime is Kazuhiro Yoneda and the series composer is Shinichi Inotsume.
The cast includes Chiwa Saitō as main character Yona, Tomoaki Maeno, Yusuke Kobayashi, Masakazu Morita, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Junichi Suwabe, Hiro Shimono, and Junko Minagawa. These seiyū are a talented bunch.
