Ogihara, Yamaguchi, and Kotani of Cerezo Osaka Challenge Themselves with Recreating Tsubasa Ozora’s and Tarō Misaki’s “Twin Shot”!

The third PV has been released for the project in which trick shots from the world of Captain Tsubasa are recreated in real life by top J. League athletes. For this third part, they recreated the “Twin Shot” combo move done by main character Tsubasa Ozora and Tarō Misaki. Participating in this dream project this time are Takahiro Ogihara, Hotaru Yamaguchi, and Yūki Kotani of Cerezo Osaka. What happened when Takahiro and Hotaru tried and pull off this trick shot on a pass from Yūki? Watch the 40-second video to find out.

Captain Tsubasa is a popular manga that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1981. It depicts the growth of main character Tsubasa Ozora and his teammates as soccer players. It’s fanbase isn’t just in Japan but worldwide.

This year is a FIFA World Cup year. Making the most of this timing, an exhibit called “Captain Tsubasa Exhibit Dream Project 2014” will be held at the Ueno Royal Museum in Japan beginning in June. The “J. League x Captain Tsubasa Dream Shoot” project was started to bring excitement to both of these events.

The project sees current J. League players attempting to recreate the trick shots introduced in Captain Tsubasa. The previously completed trick shots are the “Razor Shot” performed by Kōsuke Ota, Naohiro Ishikawa, and Kentarō Kakoi of FC Tokyo and the “Handō Shūsoku Jin Hō” performed by Kengo Nakamura and Yoshito Okubo of Kawasaki Frontale. To date (May 26, 2014), these two videos have received 5.35 and 2.95 million views, respectively.

The “Twin Shot” was first introduced in Volume 6 of the manga. It is a super shot performed by Tsubasa and Tarō at the All-Japan Youth Soccer Tournament. The characteristic of the shot is the irregular spin put on the ball by both players kicking it at the same time. This shot has stopped goalkeepers in their tracks time and time again. The Tachibana brothers along with the duo of Hyuga and Wakashimazu have also succeeded in performing the shot. It’s safe to call the shot a definitive move of Captain Tsubasa.

J. League x Captain Tsubasa Dream Shoot Part 3: Twin Shot
Distribution Start Date: May 26
Participating Players: Takahiro Ogihara, Hotaru Yamaguchi, Yūki Kotani (Cerezo Osaka)

[Comments from the Players]
Takahiro Ogihara: “I read the manga when I was a kid, so it felt really nostalgic. I saw the shot at that time and tried to mimic it, but I remember that I couldn’t do it and I felt crushed. I never thought that I’d try it again after becoming an adult! Please watch!”

Hotaru Yamaguchi: “It was hard to get the same timing as Taka (Ogihara). I was nervous at first, but I’m glad that we were able to pull it off so well.”

Yūki Kotani: “All I did was pass the ball, but I was conscious about serving Hotaru and Taka a ball that would be easy for them to hit. They performed a breathtaking shot, so please enjoy watching the video. I think that anyone can definitely pull of this shot with enough practice, so please try your best.”
