Pullip is a diverse series of dolls that has collaborated with anime, games, artists, movies, apparel brands, and more. Even for those who aren’t interested in dolls, many hobby fans surely can call to mind the look of their unique proportions and huge eyes.
Now, a new and fascinating Pullip has been born from a collaboration project between a designer brand popular the world over and a character brand loved the world over.
The doll that we are introducing this time is “TOKIDOKI×HELLOKITTY Violetta,” a collaboration Pullip between native Italian artist Simone Legno’s brand tokidoki and Sanrio’s character Hello Kitty. Collaboration products between tokidoki and Sanrio have also been released previously, and this doll was born from a project suggested by Groove.
Just how has the cute and poppy designs of tokidoki which are themed after images associated with punk, including the Grim Reaper and thorns, and the attraction of Hello Kitty who has many fans worldwide been expressed through a Pullip doll? Her semi-long hair of mixed lavender and white and her large black eyes give her face extremely impressive qualities. The magenta color of her lips also shows the doll’s unique coloring.
From the pitch-black doll eyes, to the eyelashes depicted using clear lines, to the upturned corners of the eye, the character exudes a cool and strong-willed look. The detailed makeup based on the color brown is also a point to notice.
The lavender and white hair was designed by tokidoki. The hair color of Lunarosa, a previous Pullip doll designed by tokidoki which attracted attention from doll fans, was a mixture of pink, white, and purple. The hair color of Violetta’s hair continues from Lunarosa and uses colors indicative of tokidoki.
It isn’t all just frills though, the tokidoki × Hello Kitty character is also decorated with tattoo stickers stuck to her chest, a leather jacket, and a hat. Like a collaboration model should, the doll makes use of a Hello Kitty-like ribbon design and other fun touches.
By taking off her leather jacket that has a strong rock theme, her image changes to be slightly more gentle with her wearing just her one-piece dress. She isn’t just a character rich in tokidoki’s variety with many Hello Kitty designs, the frills on the hem of her tiered dress are also differently colored.
This stylishly posed Violetta on a window sill is a special cute shot just for TOM! She comes with an eye gimmick that allows her to wink and her eyes to move, and she also has over 30 points of articulation, meaning her movements are close to that of a human’s. It’s a pose that only Pullip dolls can pull off. The breadth of Violetta’s charm isn’t just in her powerful image, but also in her roguish smile.
