Mami Appears Before Your Eyes! Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel Virtual Handshake a Big Success

It’s been over 30 years since Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel first aired, and numerous plans have been made to commemorate the milestone. One of these was the 30th anniversary special screening event to celebrate the release of the Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel Blu-ray box set held at Tachikawa Cinema City on April 12.

Since May 2013, two screenings have been held of the OVA releases Eien no Once More and Long Goodbye. With a screen size and acoustics that can only be found in a movie theater, the screenings give a different experience from normal viewings. With notable guests in attendance, as well, it was a greatly satisfying day for the Creamy Mami fans who crowded into the event venue.

The main cast took the stage for the talk portion of the event, including Yū Morisawa/Creamy Mami actress Takako Ōta, Toshio Ōtomo actor Yū Mizushima, Megumi Ayase actress Saeko Shimazu, and Shingo Tachibana actor Kazuhiko Inoue. It was the perfect line-up for the 30th anniversary.

The moderator, Mana Komatsu, was even a Mami fan. Even in the greetings, her love for the series was apparent.

During the talk, Ōta took her time and spoke without ever losing her smile, while Shimazu, Mizushima, and Inoue chimed in with their own stories. It had a similar feel to the TV broadcast.

In the second half, top Pierrot advisor Yūji Nunokawa and character designer Akemi Takada made special guest appearances. It turned out to be an enjoyable time, with production, dubbing, and other behind the scenes stories issuing forth.

There was also a surprising project unveiled in the lobby. The project allowed people to shake hands with Creamy Mami thanks to recent technology. Using a virtual system, an image appeared that made it seem as though Mami were standing right in front of you. It also included a handshake as an interactive element. The project came together using the “Miku Miku Akushu” first unveiled at the Digital Contents Expo 2013.

It was a big success with fans at the event, who waited in a long line to try it out. It was a new way to promote a series that hasn’t lost its popularity.
