At Jump Festa 2014, an event for Shueisha’s four comic magazines held last December, new One Piece prize figures on display were the talk of the event.
Each year at Jump Festa, companies participate to display and sell goods of popular works from Shueisha’s magazines through a display zone and a zone for selling original goods. However, a short video shown at the Banpresto booth at Jump Festa 2014 took product PR to a whole new level.
The video, which focuses on the popular One Piece character Tony Tony Chopper, is comprised of two “futures.” The first highlight is the figures used in the video. The video uses figures from the forthcoming prize figure series “One Piece Cry Heart - Sakura Blossoms Fall on the Winter Islands” which will be released in arcades Japan-wide this March. The name “Cry Heart” is a distortion of “Clay Art,” and the concept of the figure series is expressing “life” and “heart.” Following this theme, the figures have a warm gentleness to them.
The second highlight is that the video was created using stop-motion animation. This technique is one that anyone can use as long as they have an environment they can film in. Not only will fans be able to try reproducing this video with the new figures once they get them, they can also create new anime with entirely original stories.
Although figures are strongly thought of as items to display and appreciate, this short film that makes use of the “One Piece Cry Heart - Sakura Blossoms Fall on the Winter Islands” figures thinks outside the box and shows new possibilities for figures.
