In Tachikawa, which is considered “The City of Anime,” an event will be held that focuses on anime that uses Tachikawa as its setting. “Autumn Rakuichi 2013” will be held Nov. 3 and 4 at Showa Memorial Park in Tachikawa and will include a great amount of anime-related projects. Rakuichi (literally comfort city) refers to the abundance of anime-related cultural resources in Tachikawa, a city where events that make full use of anime have been held since 2011. This autumn as well, the city is aiming to assertively capture anime fans.
There are two new anime series set in Tachikawa that are being picked up for the event. One is the huge hit To Aru series that includes A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Magical Index. Tachikawa was used as the model for Academy City, the place where this series is set. Several collaborations with this series have been developed up until now, but the collaboration this time, titled “A Certain Municipality’s Area Promotion,” will include various projects. It seems that even those who aren’t fans of the series will enjoy it. The other series is Gatchaman Crowds, which aired from July to September of this year. This work is also set mainly in Tachikawa. Because of the many real-world locations depicted in the anime, Tachikawa is already becoming talked about as a seichi junrei destination.
A special site called “Tachikawa x Anime in 2013 Autumn Rakuichi” which introduces the event has already opened. The site is divided into three areas: “Search for Sacred Anime Spots in Tachikawa,” “Tachikawa x Anime Panel Exhibit,” and “Original Goods and More for Sale.” Two activities are including in the “Search for Sacred Anime Spots in Tachikawa” area. One, titled “A Certain City’s Shop Card Gathering,” will consist of participants going all around the city to participating shops and collecting business cards from each shop that have illustrations on them. The other is a sacred spot rally for Gatchaman Crowds. The Tachikawa x Anime Panel Exhibit will include “a certain anime’s panel exhibit,” an exhibit of winning works from the Twitter illustration contest “Gatcha! Picture,” and works from a panel exhibit for Gatchaman Crowds. Also, expect a full lineup of goods for sale. Because the event is only two days long, you’ll have to plan ahead if you want to see everything. For more information, check out the event’s special site.
