Yuzu’s new song “Hyouri Ittai” was chosen as the theme song of Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission, the new movie releasing in Japan on Dec. 27.
Hunter x Hunter is a monstrously popular manga that has reached 32 volumes and 64 million total copies sold since it started serialization in 1988 in Weekly Shonen Jump. Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission is the second movie of the series, and it shows dark secrets of the Hunter Association and a major incident involving all hunters, things yet depicted in the original work.
This song marks the third in the line of the collaborations between Yuzu and Hunter x Hunter, with the first two being “Reason,” the theme of the previous movie, and “Nagareboshi Kirari,” the ending theme of the currently on-air TV anime series. In addition to Yuujin Kitagawa and Koji Iwasawa, Hyadain aka Kenichi Maeyamada, who previously worked with the duo on “Reason,” also participated in the making of this new theme song. The song is built around the keywords of the movie––light and dark and positive and negative––and it is a dashing uptempo tune slightly different from the usual Yuzu style. The song will also be used as the new ending of the TV anime.
Also, as an additional performance to the all-Japan live tour “Yuzu Arena Tour 2013 Go Land” to which the band are also taking their album Land, they put up a two-day concert in Yokohama Arena on Sept. 22 and 23. This was the 10th time they performed at Yokohama Arena, and on both days starting from the opening, the voltage reached its climax among the fans. They freely performed new and old hit songs such as “Natsuiro,” “Reason,” and “Irotoridori” on a stage that masterfully reproduced the world of Land, the jacket visual of which was drawn by Takashi Murakami, thus drawing the audience into a wild whirlpool.
Comment from Yuzu
We are very happy to have our music as the ending song for the Hunter x Hunter TV series and the theme song of the movies. This time, by working with Hyadain aka Kenichi Maeyamada in a joint trio, just like we did with “Reason,” we succeeded in establishing a close collaboration that is more strongly linked to Hunter x Hunter. The melody was inspired by the main theme of the movie, light and dark, and the song became the two sides of the coin, just like the title says. We want to shake up the world of the anime by making the music and the movie resonate together.
