New visuals and characters have been revealed for Galilei Donna, an original TV anime that will air from October during the noitaminA programming block on Fuji TV. This was announced in a commercial during the late night noitaminA on Aug. 8 (Thu).
It was also announced that Yasuomi Umetsu, who is popular both in Japan and abroad for his work on Robot Carnival and Mezzo, is in charge of original planning and direction, with Shingo Adachi from Sword Art Online as the character designer. The anime is being produced by A-1 Pictures, a studio that continues to come out with high-quality animation such as Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day or Tsuritama. Also, Rina Hidaka was chosen for one of the main roles. She will voice Hozuki Ferrari, one of the three sisters that inherited the bloodline of Galileo Galilei.
Characters besides the three sisters were announced for the first time, and the visuals and settings for Anna, Cicinho, and Robert were revealed. At the same time, new visuals were released, and a news flash video was uploaded to the official site.
Since Galilei Donna is an original anime not based on any original work, the full story is not clear yet. Yasuomi Umetsu raised his popularity at one bound as character designer of Megazone 23 - Part II, the sequel of Megazone 23, one of the most important OVA in the history of Japanese robot anime. Later on, Hollywood movie director Rob Cohen (known for xXx) took him under his wings. Umetsu is highly regarded in and outside Japan, and since he is doing the original plan and scenario of this show, a lot of anime fans are eagerly waiting for the broadcast.
Samurai Flamenco, which will also broadcast from October on noitaminA, is an original anime as well, so a lot of anticipation surrounds the next season of noitaminA.
■Plot
Three sisters who inherited the blood of Galileo Galilei are pulled into the mystery of the possessions their mighty ancestor had left them and the various speculations surrounding them. As a result, they end up in an awkward situation where they are being chased as “international wanted criminals.” A story unfolds where the three sisters, although in constant run from their pursuers, seek to solve the mysteries of Galileo’s legacy.
