The 15th Dengeki Gunpla King and the winners from each category of the event “Dengeki Gunpla King 2013” sponsored by ASCII Media Works’ model and figure magazine Dengeki Hobby Magazine have been decided.
“Dengeki Gunpla King” is a contest between modelers of plastic Gundam models (Gunpla) that has been held since 1999. This year marked its 15th time being held. Many of the winners of the contest got their debut in the pages of Dengeki Hobby Magazine and are now active as professional modelers. This contest is the opportune chance for Gundam modelers aiming to go pro.
The works submitted between March 25 and May 13 for this year’s contest totaled 1,073, a huge increase over last year’s 650 submissions.
Beginning as a trial in 2012, the contest began accepting submissions by mail as well as online through Dengeki Hobby Web and through participating shops nationwide.
Additionally, the roughly 400 submissions that made it past the first round of judging were voted on by readers on Dengeki Hobby Web, meaning not just the modelers, but also readers were able to participate in the contest.
Of the 50 submissions remaining in the final round of judging, the one that beat out the others to be named the 15th Dengeki Gunpla King as well as attain first place in the Open Category was a deformed SD Unicorn Gundam built by iyo_08. It was the first SD Gundam to win the title. Take a look at the other winners from each category below.
