Well known for manga such as Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama’s new manga Jaco the Galactic Patrolman began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump No. 33 now on sale. Since all 13 installments of Sand Land were published in the same magazine in 2000, Toriyama’s serialised work has been absent for about 13 years.
As a commemoration for the 45th anniversary of Shonen Jump’s launch, this will become the first part of three duet series. In the picture illustration, a strange spaceman-like creature is drawn flying arm-in-arm along side a girl and an old man.
Since Toriyama’s long running series Dragon Ball from 1984-1995, he announced Cowa (1997-98) and Kajika (1998), both shorter series of around 13 chapters. After finishing Sand Land, he began creating one-off works of about one to three chapters each. He has also published manga works himself, such as the non-serialized story Kintoki: Kinmezoku no Toki (2010). It has been three years since this work and 13 years since his last serialized story in Shonen Jump.
