It has been revealed that a new serialization for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann titled Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Otokoippiki-hen will begin in the September issue of Monthly Hero’s to be released on Aug. 1. The anime to Gurren Lagann was a huge hit that began broadcasting in 2007. Later, two movies for the work were created, one in 2008 called Gurren-hen and one in 2009 called Lagann-hen, both of which were also big hits. On June 26, a special page for the new manga opened on which detailed information about the work is introduced.
The manga will be based on drama CDs included as bonuses in the anime’s DVD releases. The first drama CD introduced was called Otokoippiki Gurren Lagann, after which came Otoko Do-ahou! Gurren Lagann and Otoko-gumi da yo! Gurren Lagann. This series of drama CDs was written by Kazuki Nakashima, the series composer of the anime. The CDs are unique for their school story that adopts the worldview of the series. Otokoippiki-hen is being created by Gainax and Nakashima, with Nakashima in charge of the script and Saki Nonoyama appointed as illustrator.
The manga is set in modern day Japan and focuses on three members of Team Dai-Gurren: Kamina, Simon, and Yoko. The three attend Dai Gurren Academy, where various conspiracies run rampant regarding the huge mecha Gurren Lagann. The curtain is about to open on a turbulent story.
Monthly Hero’s is a publication that launched in November 2011 under the concept of “hero manga.” Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, a passionate story about maturity and fighting for mankind, seems to have began its serialization in this magazine due to its connection with the magazine’s concept. Even after six years, the momentum of Gurren Lagann is still strong.
