What kind of place is this restaurant owned by animation production company Ufotable? Following my visit to Ufotable Cafe, I also took a trip to Ufotable Dining in Shinjuku. My visit fell right in the middle of ClariS Dining, a collaborative promotion with the pop duo ClariS (This event is currently running from 6/20-7/2.) and I ate from the collaborative ClariS menu.
The white tones of the restaurant, located right near the C5 and C6 exits of Shinjuku Sanchome Station, give it a relaxed atmosphere. The style of the interior had an even more casual look to it than Ufotable Cafe in Koenji. While there, I spoke with the restaurant manager, Mr. Ono, regarding the cafe:
> Ufotable Dining was launched by the staff of Ufotable Cafe. There has been a great amount of attention paid to each detail at Ufotable Dining, such as the lack of a display area like they have at Ufotable Cafe, or the unique seats with Ufotable anime images done up in an American comic frame style, or the nostalgic arcade games at some of the tables. (The games are not available to play at the moment.)
The woodgrain buttons on the arcade machines and the design of the DJ booth shelving also apparently sum up Ufotable president Kondo’s meticulous taste. Just like with the anime produced by Ufotable, the location is packed with things for visitors to enjoy.
On the collaboration, Ono commented, “Though our current ClariS Dining promotion is the same as ClariS Cafe, we have our own menu, as well as a coaster lottery that is only at Dining, so we have been able to make ourselves distinct.”
There were ClariS fans at the restaurant at the time of my visit, and I got the impression that visitors could relax and have a good time taking photos, in addition to enjoying the original menu.
The establishment has collaborated with various series in the past, so I asked what set the menu for the ClariS collaboration apart, to which Ono responded,
> Hearing that the girls of ClariS live in Hokkaido, we went with a pasta with ingredients that create an image of Hokkaido, such as salmon, salmon roe, and green asparagus, as well as soup curry, which is said to have originated in Sapporo. For the dessert, there are two waffles to represent the two singers and different colors for the same lychee flavored drink, giving it a ClariS feel.
In addition to receiving a lunch placemat and coaster when ordering from the ClariS menu, visitors can also receive an original badge if they order the “food and drink” or “dessert and drink” sets. In addition, through the coaster lottery, patrons can win the posters and tapestries decorating the restaurant.

Ono then discussed the type of people who frequent the cafe:
> Though we certainly have many fans of our collaborative promotions visiting, Ufotable Dining is located in Shinjuku, so at night we try to create an atmosphere where people can have a relaxing time drinking and enjoying a nice meal. We get business from the professionals in the area coming by during lunch and from people meeting up for drinks in the evening.
Even when doing collaborations with anime, games, or, in this case, the music artists ClariS, the restaurant has a welcome and relaxing atmosphere, and I could see the similarity between it and the anime produced by Ufotable, which, in addition to being high quality, also appeal to wide audiences.
More collaborative promotional events are scheduled to come. However, depending on the promotion, reservations for Ufotable Dining may fill up, so always be sure to check the official site before visiting.
