“Prologue to Mewtwo’s Awakening” to Broadcast Just Prior to Release of New Pokémon Film!

On July 13, Pokémon Best Wishes the Movie: ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening will release in theaters throughout Japan as part of the greatly popular annual Pokémon film series that both adults and children alike enjoy. The particularly well-known Pokémon Mewtwo will be appearing in the film, and the anticipation of fans is ever growing. Many big plans to be carried out prior to the film’s release have been announced. One such plan is a special TV anime called Prologue to Mewtwo’s Awakening.

On July 11 at 7:00 p.m., TV Tokyo will broadcast a two-hour Pokémon special program consisting of two works: Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice from the summer of 2012 and Prologue to Mewtwo’s Awakening. The program is quite a surprise. Prologue to Mewtwo’s Awakening, in accordance to its title, is related to this summer’s Pokémon film. The prologue depicts a story prior to when Ash and his friends encounter Mewtwo, considered the strongest Pokémon. Mewtwo’s past and purpose are depicted in the completely original story. Is seems the mightiest Pokémon will enliven fans’ living rooms a step ahead of the film.

Also, Atsuko Maeda has been selected as the program’s narrator. Maeda is also performing as the narrator for Pikachu and Eevee Friends, a short anime screening together with the feature film. She is taking on the role of supporting Pokémon on TV as well. As fans’ excitement for Mewtwo's Awakening piles up, this special program can make you feel its true extent!

Prologue to Mewtwo’s Awakening follows Virgil, a member of the Pokémon Rescue Squad who, while on route back to camp after finishing a rescue mission in the mountains, makes an emergency landing on a mountain. There he hears from a girl named Anna and an old man named Oscar about their mysterious experiences of being rescued by a Pokémon they have never seen before. They are suddenly approached by a mysterious man named Dunk who says, “That Pokémon is Mewtwo!” and tells them about how he was also rescued by the Pokémon.

However, he says that Mewtwo had been greatly injured at that time. Virgil and his friends immediately set off to aid Mewtwo, but Mewtwo, who is said to have been created by humans, seemingly doesn’t trust humans. Nevertheless, Virgil asks Eevee and its friends for help while Anna calls out to the Pokémon living in the forest to start a search!

However, Dunk impudently smiles as a suspicious camera pursues the Pokémon... What is Dunk’s true intention? That, and even more details of Mewtwo’s past will be revealed, and finally, the curtain will draw on the grand battle of the Awakened Mewtwo.
