Anime Song Column 3: DJ Kazu Discusses “Exp Rising”

Continuing after “Pre-Parade,” here is another Kaoru Okubo song. How is he able to make such a song that grabs hold of the listener like this? I can only admire.

First, the overly pop melody repeats in your brain, then the lyrics come in. The inlayed sound effects and the texture feel nice; they feel as if they are rising, almost like you’re sprinting! Also, this “interlude” is awesome! (laugh) It has a great impact and it’s easy to understand. It provides the means of enjoyment in advance. Whether it’s played live or in a club, everyone unites! And it continues on to “Keikenchi Soku Joujou ↑↑” and “Shiawase High Tension ↑↑”. Of course, in a club you can dance, but you might also want to let out your voice. That way, it’s more fun. This song naturally makes you want to raise your voice. Or maybe you’re already shouting.

Also, though this might be obvious since it was made for the anime, but this song tells the daily lives and thoughts of the three girls, and listening to it makes you happy in a sort of way. The song casually tells us important things, such as, “There are sparkles in our everyday lives,” and, “I love the present.”
