The full-length animated film Berserk Golden Age Arc II: The Battle for Doldrey directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka was chosen as one of nine works included in the competition category at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Last year, the first movie in the Berserk trilogy, Berserk Golden Age Arc I: The Egg of the King, was chosen for the out-of-competition category. Being in the competition category means that the film is up for various awards, including the Grand Prix.
Berserk Golden Age Arc II: The Battle for Doldrey is a film adaptation of the original manga Berserk created by Kentaro Miura. The manga is hugely popular and has been serialized every other week in the manga magazine Young Animal for over 20 years. Including overseas sales, the manga has reached more than 33 million total copies sold, and it’s popular not only in Japan, but also overseas as well. Berserk Golden Age Arc II: The Battle for Doldrey is the second film in the Berserk movie trilogy that focuses on the story’s famous Golden Age Arc.
The Annecy International Animation Film Festival was created from the Cannes International Film Festival animation category as an independent festival in 1960. Due to the size of its scale and its long history, it is one of the most well-known animation film festivals in the world.
Many people are anticipating great things from Berserk Golden Age Arc II: The Battle for Doldrey at this year’s festival, which will kick off on June 10.
