The Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (SICAF) is going to be held from July 23-28 in South Korea. SICAF is South Korea’s biggest animation screening festival with various events such as a competition, feature screening, exhibition, and project market.
Information about the main program, the competition, and the official screenings were announced a few days ago. There are 1,225 entries from all around the world consisting of long and short animations alike; 125 of which will be formally displayed.
There are five animations from Japan among the featured works. Anime Mirai was listed in the long animation category. Even though this workpiece consists of four short films, it was regarded as an omnibus work; thus, it was entered into the long animation category. Yoriko Mizushiri’s Futon and Takuya Inaba’s Golden Time were among those selected for the short category, and Yuutarou Kubo’s Crazy for it and Saki Muramoto’s Time for Dinner were among those selected for the student category. All of these works have received high praise in Japan.
There are an additional three works from Japan that will be formally shown outside the competition. These are Obake no Dokurou by Michiya Kato, Komaneko no Orusuban by Tsuneo Gouda, and K-On! The Movie by Naoko Yamada.
The awards will be announced on the last day, July 28. We are all curious about how these Japanese anime will be rated in South Korea.
