Ennichisai 2013 will be held from May 25-26 at Blok M in Jakarta Selatan, Jakarta, Indonesia. The curtain will open on two days devoted to Japan in the world-leading mega city Jakarta, which has a population of over 10 million!
Since it began in 2010, the scope of Ennichisai has become bigger and bigger each year. In 2012, it became recognized as a big event, with 200,000 people attending over its two-day period. With the feeling of Japan’s traditional omatsuri (festival) hanging in the air, an event featuring cosplayers dressed as popular anime characters will also take place. This year, 150 booths are planned, and the best part is that there is no entrance fee!
The theme for this year’s event is “maju bersama,” which means “walking together” in Indonesian and has the message of Indonesia and Japan walking hand in hand and deepening their friendship.
Empathising with this message, and having opened 83 stores in Indonesia, Lawson, a Japanese otaku convenience store that was introduced recently here on Tokyo Otaku Mode, is also participating at this year’s Ennichisai for the first time! Throughout the event, they will be offering oden and drinks to attendees from their booth located at Red 13 (southernmost side of the central passageway).
If you stop by their booth, make sure to savor their oden, a dish with lobster balls, tahu baso ikan, and fish sticks soaked in an Indonesian chili sauce called sambal. They will also have drinks prepared for parched attendees who are tired from the event’s activities and excitement. Cosplayers dressed up as Lawson’s Vocaloid character Akikoloid-chan will also be at their booth. While eating the delicious oden, you can happily chat with Akikoloid-chan!
A photo contest using Akikoloid-chan and Lawson Indonesia’s character Putri-chan will also be held. The contest is themed around capturing someone eating Lawson’s oden with either Akikoloid-chan or the cardboard cutout of Putri-chan. If you are skilled with a camera, this is your chance to wow everyone with an extraordinary photo! Don’t take your eyes off Lawson’s active booth at Ennichisai 2013!
