Creator Interview: Eri Kamijo

Recently, we interviewed TOM Special Creator Eri Kamijo whose bold and beautiful works constantly wow us. Read on for the interview!

Creator Introduction
Name: Eri Kamijo

TOM: What is your process for drawing pictures?
Eri: I import the sketch to my PC, then complete the lines, coloring, and design using Adobe Illustrator, so most of the work is illustrating, basically. When I want to process something or when I make images for web use, I use Photoshop. This screenshot was taken during the process of making the image.

TOM: Which one of your works did you have the most difficulties with?
Eri: This picture called “Sakurazuki.” It’s very big (B1 size) so it took a long time to complete. Plus the cherry blossoms in the background were drawn one by one, not by using brush data. Due to the fine drawing, there was too much data and errors were occurring all the time; it sure gave me a hard time.

TOM: Which one of your works is the most popular?
Eri: The illustrations of the Power Stone series. This series uses the brilliance of women and beauty of power stones, a type of stone that also includes birthstones, as its theme. They are selling as posters and postcards, and they are very popular.

TOM: Which work is your simplest?
Eri: Well, all of my works are simple, but if I had to pick one, I would say this one because it’s pretty simple but still has an impact. It has a dark aura to it, as the girl is cutting her hair, which is her life, with a pair of ordinary, cheap scissors. On the other side, it also projects a positive meaning that she is strong-willed and that she is going to walk that road.

TOM: Could you please introduce to us your favorite derivative work?
Eri: Even though it’s pretty old, I’d have to say it’s this one. This is an illustration of Manfred von Karma and Mei from Ace Attorney, a game I’ve always loved. I also drew a couple of Hatsune Miku illustrations, and I like those as well. I have them in the gallery on my website. Feel free to check them out if you’d like. (http://digipop.to/)

TOM: Which work expresses your style well?
Eri: I enjoy drawing pictures in my style of cute and pretty girls. That’s why I create all my work while being conscious of those feelings.
