On March 16 at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, a famous sightseeing spot in Kyoto, a new attraction called “Ninja Training Dojo” opened. At the opening ceremony for the attraction, three young actors from the live-action movie Nintama Rantaro: Summer Mission Impossible!, which will be released on July 6, participated in a runthrough of the attraction dressed as their characters from the movie. The actors were Seishiro Kato (Rantaro), Rui Hayashi (Kirimaru), and Juri Shingetsu (Shinbee).
This collaboration started due to parts of the movie being filmed at Toei Kyoto Studio Park. Just before the ceremony began, the Dokutake ninja clan infiltrated the attraction and the ceremony was shut down. Those in attendance were in luck though, as Rintaro and his friends were there to save the day.
In addition to the attraction, commemorative events, such as a stamp rally and cardboard cutout exhibit, will be held until Sept. 8. On June 9, a discussion with the original author of the manga, Sobee Amako, and a cosplay event will be held, which are sure to up the excitement for both the new attraction and movie.
The manga Rakudai Ninja Rantaro began being serialized in 1986 and has more than eight million copies in print. The series was also adapted into a long-running and popular anime that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Nintama Rantaro: Summer Mission Impossible! is the second movie in the series and is being directed by Ryuta Tazaki of Kamen Rider fame.
