Hatsune Miku is loved by all. She is not only one of the most famous singers in Japan, she has also gathered worldwide acclaim and support. Did you know that every year in Japan on March 9, fans get together to celebrate Miku Day? The date March 9 actually has a connection to Hatsune Miku that many overseas fans may not know about. In Japanese, “miku” is one of the ways to pronounce “39”. It’s very similar to how “skate” can be written as “sk8” in English.
Miku Day always features a big performance, and this year is no different. On Miku Day this year, the live event “Hatsune Miku Live Party 2013 in Kansai (Mikupa♪) -39’s Spring the 3rd Synthesis-” will be held in Kansai, Japan. “Mikupa♪” was first held on March 9, 2011,and this year marks the event’s 3rd anniversary. Since “Mikupa♪” began, it has also been held in other countries such as Hong Kong and Taiwan. This year it was held in Sapporo, which is the birthplace of Hatsune Miku. Fourteen "Mikupa♪" performances have been held in the past two years, attracting more than 30,000 enthusiastic fans in total. Miku has reached the number one spot on the Oricon charts, Japan’s version of the Billboard charts. On top of this, she has also appeared on stage in an opera house wearing clothes designed by Marc Jacobs. In many ways, she has lept out of the world of being a virtual singer and into the real world, especially at her live performances.
“Mikupa♪” is a hugely anticipated event that is not to be missed. But what if you can’t make it? No worries! WOWOW has you covered! For those who can’t attend the event at Wakayama Big Whale in Wakayama, you can watch it from the comfort of your couch. The Japanese satellite broadcasting channel WOWOW will be airing the entire Kansai event live.
