A special talk event called “Tappuri Yamato Night” was recently held for the anime Space Battleship Yamato 2199 at which staff members shared their thoughts on the episodes and guest work. At the event, two special guests took the stage to talk about the anime: the director Hideaki Anno and the illustration artist Naoyuki Kato.
“Tappuri Yamato Night” was held to tie in with the release of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Chapter 4: Ginga Henkyo no Kobo on Jan 12. The event occurred on Jan. 22 and Jan. 25 at Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo. Anno was a guest on Jan. 22 and Kato was a guest on Jan. 25.
Even though Anno is best known for directing the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, he also had a hand in Space Battleship Yamato 2199. In fact, he designed the deeply impactful opening sequence for the anime. At the event, Yutaka Izubuchi, the director of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 took the stage along with Anno to have a deep discussion on the anime.
On the other hand, Kato talked about his recent work to promote the anime. As a special gift for the Blu-ray and DVD, he drew an illustration for the sleeve as well as the movie pamphlet “Yamato Gallery”. At the event Chara Hobby 2012, he performed a live painting of a five meter long Yamato that was widely talked about. Furthermore, he also drew special illustrations that were given out as gifts to those who purchased tickets to Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Chapter 4: Ginga Henkyo no Kobo. He was also a guest on the night of the final screening of the movie, where he talked in great detail to the crowd.
