On Jan. 14, one month after One Piece Film Z began screening in Japan, it was announced that the movie has broken through six billion yen in box office revenue. The movie has become a record-breaking hit, with more than five million tickets sold.
With it’s momentum not slowing down in Japan, it has been decided that the movie will begin screening overseas in East Asia. The movie is planned to be released in Taiwan Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and South Korea.
Toei Animation, the production company in charge of overseas licensing for the movie, isn’t satisfied with only bringing the movie to Asia. They want to expand the movie to a worldwide audience that includes both Europe and America. It seems that One Piece Film Z will now have a large role to accomplish in promoting the worldwide expansion of Japanese anime.
