Latest News on Guests and Events Planned for TCA 2013

From Feb. 14-18 at the Taipei World Trade Center in Taiwan, the first Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival (TCA) will be held. The event is being sponsored by a Chinese company which is a famous sponsor of manga events. TCA will focus primarily on manga, however, international animation will also be a big topic. Tickets for the event went on sale on Jan. 1 for 100 yuan (roughly US$16) each.

Let’s take a look at what has been confirmed for TCA. The lineup for stage events at TCA includes Phi Brain: Puzzle of God, Garo, Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, and others. Confirmed guests for TCA include a wide range of popular voice actors, such as Daisuke Namikawa, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Kaori Fukuhara, Chika Fujito, Megumi Han, Mariya Ise, and Shintaro Asanuma, as well as film director Keita Amamiya. Also in attendance will be manga artists Ai Minase and Motonari Takaoka.

Differing from many other countries, Taiwan is particularly fond of light novels. In attendance from this category will be a stellar lineup of authors, including Taro Tatsunoko ( Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sō Desu yo?), Mamare Tono ( Maoyu Mao Yusha), So Sagara ( Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko), Tomohiro Matsu and Yuka Nakajima ( Papa no Iukoto o Kikinasai), Yu Shimizu and Hanpen Sakura ( Seirei Tsukai no Kenbu), and Seiichi Takayama ( Ore to Kanojo no Zettairyoiki). The extensiveness of these works’ popularities is evidence of Taiwan’s wide acceptance of Japanese light novels.

This month, the Taipei International Book Exhibition and Taipei Game Show will also take place at the Taipei World Trade Center. Also, the events line up with the Chinese New Year, which means that with all of these events combined, Taipei is going to be quite lively this month.
