Kurapika’s “scarlet eyes” have been stolen!
Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge, the first movie in the Hunter × Hunter series, is planned to premiere on Jan. 12, 2013. To tie-in with the movie, a special 63 page story called Kurapika Recollections has been published. The story, which is based on the Phantom Troupe story arc and was illustrated by the original author of Hunter x Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi, was published in the January and February 2013 issues of Weekly Shonen Jump, which went on sale in Japan on Dec. 3 and 10 respectively.
Hunter × Hunter is a popular manga that began its serialization on Mar. 3, 1998 in Weekly Shonen Jump. More than 60 million copies of the manga have been printed to date. Also, the second anime adaptation began broadcasting in the fall of 2011 on Nippon Television and is currently ongoing.
Togashi acted as an illustrator on both Kurapika Recollections and Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge. The film is based on an unpublished story that Togashi wrote ten years ago, and depicts the quarrel over the “scarlet eyes” that belong to Kurapika and the Kurta clan. Kurapika Recollections is a prequel that will prepare fans for the movie.
In addition to the special story’s serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump, volume 32 of the manga is planned to be released on Dec. 28, 2012. This is definitely a welcome gift for fans who can’t wait for the movie’s opening.
