I bought this several months ago for my new 3DS XL and I'm still very happy with it all this time later.

Since it's made of Silicon it's soft and won't really protect your system from major damage, like if it's dropped from a high place, but it does a nice job keeping the outside of the system from getting scratched up or dinged. The cover itself has thus far resisted dirt and damage and only a little dust has gotten past it. It's extremely easy to slip on and off for cleaning and all of the areas cut out for the controls line up perfectly.
