Synopsis

In the near future, Earth is under attack by an alien enemy known as the “Enemies of Humanity.” In order to fight against them, a unique school is set up on a faraway island in order to teach and train children with supernatural abilities known as “Talents.” Nana Hiiragi is a new student to the school who quickly begins making friends with the other students. However, in truth she is a no-Talent assassin who has been sent by the government to kill the students, who have been deemed the true Enemies of Humanity.

Background

Talentless Nana began as a manga series written by Looseboy and illustrated by Iori Furuya that has been serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine since May 2016.

An anime adaptation of the series was announced in April 2020. It is being produced by Bridge and features Shinji Ishihira as director, Fumihiko Shimo as series composer, Satohiko Sano as character designer, and Yasuharu Takanashi as music composer. The series premiered in Japan on Oct. 4 on ATX and Tokyo MX. It will run for 13 episodes and is being streamed in North America through Funimation.

Characters

Nana Hiiragi (Voiced by: Rumi Okubo)
Nana is a transfer student who is friendly, affectionate, responsible, and polite. She always has a smile on her face and has an easy-going demeanor. However, she has keen observational skills and is adept at fighting against the Enemies of Humanity.

Nanao Nakajima (Voiced by: Hiro Shimono)
Nanao is a talented boy with a strong sense of justice who longs to become a hero. Though he wants to stand up to the Enemies of Humanity he isn’t confident in his abilities. He is seen as incompetent by his classmates due to hiding his true abilities.

Kyoya Onodera (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
Kyoya transfers into the school on the same day that Nana does. He is unfriendly and reserved and has a cautious personality. He is very mysterious due to keeping to himself.

Michiru Inukai (Voiced by: Mai Nakahara)
Michiru and Nana and Nanao’s classmate. She is petite and has fluffy hair. She has a quiet, kind-hearted, and honest personality and can heal others by licking their wounds.

Yohei Shibusawa (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
Yohei is said to have the power to stop time. He has a nervous personality but acts like a gentleman.

Moguo Iijima (Voiced by: Takuya Nakashima)
Moguo has the power to control fire. He calls himself the “Prince of Fire.”

Seiya has the power to control ice. He is a noble boy and a confident narcissist. He is also a playboy who is popular with the girls in class. He often gets into conflict with Moguo.

Kirara Habu (Voiced by: Yukina Tsutsumi)
Kirara can poison people using her saliva. She is a gyaru with a rough tone.

Kaori Takanashi (Voiced by: Yurie Kozakai)
Kaori has the ability to teleport. She hangs around Kirara and makes fun of Michiru.

Tsunekichi Hatadaira (Voiced by: Atsushi Tamaru)
Tsunekichi is able to predict the future with stunning accuracy. He uses his abilities for selfish reasons including gambling.

Yuka Sasaki (Voiced by: Miyu Tomita)
Yuka is Shinji’s childhood friend and treats him like his caretaker. She is expressive and friendly with everyone.

Shinji Kazama (Voiced by: Aiko Ninomiya)
Shinji and Nanao and Nana’s classmate who rarely attends class and is always sleeping in the dorm. He has necromantic abilities.

Ryuji Ishii (Voiced by: Tomohiro Ono)
Ryuji has the ability to change the size of his body. He speaks with a Kansai dialect. He has a laid-back personality and is popular.

Fuko Sorano (Voiced by: Yuna Kamakura)
Fuko has the ability to control air and use it to cut objects like a knife. She has a Japanese-style beauty with long, straight black hair. She has a polite and well-behaved demeanor. She is Ryuji’s girlfriend.

Homeroom teacher (Voiced by: Atsushi Kousaka)
The teacher in charge of Nanao and Nana’s class.

Jin Tachibana (Voiced by: Koji Yusa)
Jin used to be involved with the school and speaks with an intelligent tone.
