Synopsis

Set on the continent of Atlatan, the nobility of the land fights against demons from another dimension called Chaos that threaten all life using Crests, which give the user supernatural powers. However, the nobels soon become drunk on the Crests’ powers and rather than join forces to defeat the Chaos begin feuding with one another for power and land. Siluca Meletes is a young and talented mage who scorns the feuding lords and Theo Cornaro is a wandering knight and Crest holder who is trying to bring peace to the land. The two join forces together with allies they meet along the way to end the war between the lords and eradicate the Chaos.

Media

Grancrest Senki began as a light novel written by Ryo Mizuno and illustrated by Miyu that began being published by Fujimi Shobo in August 2013 under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. As of February 2018, nine volumes have been published. A spin-off light novel titled Grancrest Adept: Mushoku no Seijo, Soen no Kenshi written by Ryo Mizuno and Notane Kaki with illustrations by Ayumu Kasuga has also been published by Fujimi Shobo since September 2013. There is also a manga adaptation written by Ryo Mizuno with illustrations by Makoto Yotsuba that began being published by Hakusensha in Young Animal in June 2016 with one collected tankobon volume published as of February 2018.

Created in tandem with the light novel, the series has also been developed into a tabletop RPG called Grancrest RPG developed by Ryo Mizuno and Shunsaku Yano. As of February 2018, four rulebooks, two databooks, and more than a dozen replay books have been published for the game.

An anime adaptation of the series directed by Mamoru Hatakeyama with animation by A-1 Pictures began airing on Jan. 5, 2018 in Japan on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11 with additional broadcasts on TV Aichi, ABC, and AT-X. The anime is written by Ryo Mizuno, Shunsaku Yano, and WriteWorks, with character designs by Yako Hiroshi and music by Yugo Kanno. The anime will run for 24 episodes total. It features opening theme song “Starry” by Mashiro Ayano and ending theme song “Pledge” by Asca. It has been licensed overseas by Aniplex of America.

Characters

Theo Cornaro (CV: Kentaro Kumagai)

An idealist who wants to bring peace to the land, Teho possesses a crest that signifies nobility and gives superhuman powers he received from defeating a monster.

Siluca Meletes (CV: Akari Kito)

The female lead, Siluca is a young and talented mage who wants to stop the feuding of lords and contacts Theo for help. She has a cat familiar that can travel through shadows and is the king of the cat kingdom.

Irvin (CV: Yuichi Nakamura)

Irvin possesses a demon seal which gives him extreme fighting capabilities. He is the highest level Crest holder, being a guard of the Archdukes with the title of Chamberlain. His movements are so quick as to be unseeable to the untrained eye. He becomes Siluca’s guard after learning of her abilities.

Aishela (CV: Reina Ueda)

Siluca’s friend and a demon seal holder who is also a top fighter and supports Siluca on her quest for peace.

Lassic David (CV: Satoshi Hino)

A former crest-holder and lord of the neighboring country to Theo’s whose goal is to conquer all nations, he decides to follow Theo after being defeated by him and transfers his goal of world conquest to Theo, believing him able to do it.

Moreno Dortous (CV: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)

A former upperclassman to Siluca at the mage academy, Moreno is a mage in Lassic’s service who is proficient in swordsmanship, believing mages need to be able to fight on the frontlines.

Priscilla Farnese (CV: Natsumi Takamori)

A priestess of the religious Order of the Crest, Priscilla possesses a three-dimensional crest that she uses to heal people and helps Theo on his journey for peace in subduing Chaos.

Marrine Kreische (CV: Ai Kayano)

The Margrave in charge of the Fantasy Alliance, Marrine assumed this position after her father the archduke was killed on her wedding day.

Aubeste Meletes (CV: Satoshi Mikami)

Siluca’s adoptive father and the Mage Leader of the Fantasy Alliance, Aubeste is the mage to Lady Marrine Kreische.

Villar Constance (CV: Takahiro Sakurai)

Known as a lewd lord for having young female mages contracted to him, Villar aka the Earl of Artuk and Marrine’s cousin is actually a protector who keeps female mages safe from those who fear their power.

Margaret Odius (CV: Yuko Kaida)

A female mage contracted to Villar Constance who was an upperclassman to Siluca.

Mirza Kuces (CV: Wataru Hatano)

Alexis Doucet (CV: Yuichi Iguchi)

Son of the late archduke of the Factory Union and beau to Marrine, Alexis’ father was killed along with Marrine’s father when a Chaos crashed their wedding.

Selge Constance (CV: Hiro Shimono)
