Synopsis

Bayron City - an artificial floating island in the Pacific Ocean outside of any country's jurisdiction. The city is known for mining a new energy source called orgonium and is attracting attention from all over the world. However, due to the mining, strange incidents caused by demons called “D disasters” have been frequently occuring on the island. In order to eliminate the threat, PMCs are hired. Shu is a young man living in Bayron City who runs one such PMC. But due to being picky about the jobs he takes on, cash flow is always tight. He is supported by Kisara, a beautiful high school girl who goes to school in the city. But in truth, she is secretly a demon who is obsessed with Shu and has entered a contract with him sealed with a kiss. What does destiny have in store for these two?

Background

Engage Kiss is an upcoming TV anime that is part of the Project Engage mixed-media project created by Aniplex. The project was first announced in March 2022 and will consist of an anime and a smartphone game titled Engage Kill that is being developed by Square Enix.

The TV anime was first announced during an event at AnimeJapan 2022. It is being produced by A-1 Pictures (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Black Butler, Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend) and features Tomoya Tanaka (elDLIVE, Visual Prison) as director, with Fumiaki Maruto (Classroom Crisis, Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Flat, White Album 2) handling series composition and scripts, Masaaki Takiyama (Fate/Extra Last Encore, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!, Tokyo ESP) who is credited as animation character designer and chief animation director, Chiaki Furuzumi (From the New World, The Seven Deadly Sins, Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld) who is credited as sub-character designer and chief animation director, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa (ESTAB LIFE: Great Escape, Love Live! Superstar!!, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation) who is composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Dare-Kare Scramble" by halca. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 2, 2022 on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, BS11, and other channels.

Characters

Shu Ogata (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
Shu runs a fledgling private military company (PMC) called Isamu & Shu Office (I&S) and undertakes jobs to exterminate demons. He was originally a member of the major PMC AAA Defender Co., but is now independent and runs I&S together with Kisara. He only takes on specific jobs and any money made is put right back into the business, so he is always penniless.

Kisara (Voiced by: Saya Aizawa)
Kisara is a demon girl who has a contract with Shu to exterminate demons. The fact that she is a demon is unknown to all but a few humans, and she normally attends high school in Bayron City as a human. She frequently drops by Shu’s house even when she isn’t working and supports him both in work and in his personal life. She is very possessive of Shu and tries to get rid of any girls who approach him.

Ayano Yugiri (Voiced by: Lynn)
Ayano is an elite agent working for the major PMC AAA Defender Co. and is the president’s daughter. She is well-liked at work for her earnestness, rigor, and caring attitude toward her subordinates. She was Shu’s senpai when he worked for AAA and is also his ex. She still cares for Shu, who now works independently.

Sharon Holygrail (Voiced by: Rumi Okubo)
On the surface, she is a sister with the philanthropic Seiten Church, but in truth she is an agent of the world’s largest exorcist group. As a sister, she treats ordinary people kindly, but when it comes to fulfilling her duties as an agent, she is extremely cool-headed and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. She infiltrates Bayron City alone for a certain reason.

Akino Yugiri (Voiced by: Akeno Watanabe)
Akino is Ayano’s mother and is the capable president of Bayron City’s largest PMC, AAA Defender Co. She used to take care of Shu when he was a member of AAA and still admires his skill at exterminating demons.

Miles Morgan (Voiced by: Kenichiro Matsuda)
Miles is a veteran police officer with the Demon Extermination Department. He is buddies with Tetsuya and deals with D disasters. He is old friends with Shu and was his foster parent for a year when he was very young. He is mild-mannered and family-focused, and even now he considered Shu to be family.

Tetsuya Mikami (Voiced by: Yoshiaki Hasegawa)
Tetsuya is a member of Bayron City’s Demon Extermination Department special crimes unit. He is in charge of dealing with D disasters on scene and investigating suspects. He is serious and has a strong sense of justice and excellent insight. He is buddies with Miles, whom he often partners up with.

Shenhua is the eldest daughter of Bayron City’s current mayor. She works as the city’s deputy mayor and assists her father mainly in diplomatic matters. Always cool-headed and quick-witted, she is the most intelligent of her siblings and is the most promising candidate for the next mayor.

Linhua Hachisuka (Voiced by: Saori Onishi)
Linhua is the youngest daughter of Bayron City’s current mayor. She too works as the city’s deputy mayor and assists her father mainly in domestic affairs. In contrast to her sister, she has a boisterous personality and is the strongest of her siblings. She has been good friends with Ayano since their university days.

Mihail is the eldest son of Bayron City’s current mayor. As a member of the prestigious Hachisuka family, he is good looking and is the president of the student council at his school, but due to his terrible personality he is often ridiculed by those around him. Due to having a different mother than his two sisters, he looks quite different from them.
