OtapediaSuper Saiyan 3 Transformation - Dragon Ball

Super Saiyan 3 or 超サイヤ人3, SS3, Ultra Super Saiyan - succeeds the second phase of Saiyan transformation which becomes the third version of the Super Saiyan Class. The third form draws out the maximum capacity from a Saiyan's blood. The first Saiyan who achieved this form from harsh and extreme training in the Other World is the main protagonist, Son Goku, followed by Son Goten and Trunks with Goku's guidance to the two.

History

The initial concept design made by Akira Toriyama hand-drawn into manga sketch and mentioned from his interview from the year 2014 of June during Akira's interview from Saikyō Jump. He states that mastering both Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 will demand less drain from Saiyan energy and still increase a Saiyan’s power immensely. At first, there was a rejection of Akira's concept on Super Saiyan 3 form with a tail. However, in the series of Dragon Ball GT, his design concept adapts for the Fourth Form of Super Saiyan. The Super Saiyan 3 form is attainable through intense training in out of ordinary situations such as when Son Goku achieves this when he is in the afterlife known as ‘Other World’ with guidance from the one with knowledge on how to attain it such as Great Kai's guidance to Goku. Another example is when Son Goten and Trunks achieve the Super Saiyan 3 form only with Goku's guidance and going through fusion, which is known as Gotenks.

Transformation

In the initial appearance of the Super Saiyan 3 form by Goku on Earth, there was tremendous instability in utilizing this power. It causes side effects like gigantic tidal waves or hurricanes endangering the planet. Due to the massive power bursts, this puts the Saiyan in Radar from the Kais at the Sacred World. Another downside of the transformation involves the abrupt ki utilization dividing Goku's temporary energy revival into the half against his fight against Majin Buu. Moreover, at the time he presents this to Goten and Trunks, his energy drains so much that he immediately returns to Other World.

The appearance of Super Saiyan 3 differs distinctly from Saiyan's hair becoming longer than Super Saiyan 2, except if the user is bald then they will remain bald. In the case of Cumber's transformation in Super Dragon Ball Heroes there are no changes in the length of the hair. The hair thickness becomes coarse, smooth & flowy, while the Saiyan's hair color takes on a darker shade of golden blonde.

The Saiyan's eyebrows disappear, resulting in prominent eye ridges except for the female version of Saiyan 3 on Xenoverse 2 & Super Dragon Ball Heroes. The pitch of the voice becomes deep in the anime. Meanwhile, the Saiyan's muscles achieve a noticeable outline in mass. The aura of Super Saiyan 3 exhibits sharper and larger lines extending farther away from the body compared to when it initially was depicting massive energy emanating from the user.

Power and Usage

Super Saiyan 3 utilizes the blood of a Super Saiyan to its utmost potential to the point of drawing the user's concealed potential to the limits. To calculate the amount of power this form uses, multiply the Super Saiyan's power by eight times. The requirements for achieving the Super Saiyan 3 form involves the user being a Super Saiyan and extensively finding and tapping into the energy they possess to activate the transformation. The fusion from Goten and Trunks, also called Gotenks, becomes a helping factor in attaining the Super Saiyan 3 transformation. The difficulty in defeating the opponent propels them to reach their breaking point on their encounter with Kid Buu. To defeat Kid Buu, a combination of Super Spirit Bomb from the collected energy from Earth and Namekian villagers was required to finish him off.

Variations

Super Saiyan 3 Full Power is a form of advancement while the user is on Super Saiyan 3, allowing the utmost performance of power but without the consequences of energy expenditure nor a physical burden to the user (the presented power by Ancient Super Saiyan Cumber).

In-Game Variations
