Legendary Super Saiyan Transformation - Dragon Ball
The Legendary Super Saiyan, more often referred to as full power Super Saiyan, is one of many Super Saiyan transformations in the Dragon Ball franchise, which composes anime, manga, video games, movies, merchandise, and much more. In Dragon Ball, Saiyans are a warrior race of beings that are able to alter their physical strength, energy, and other capabilities by undergoing special transformations, and the legendary Super Saiyan form is one of many of these special transformations. The legendary Super Saiyan form takes front stage in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, in which the film’s main antagonist Broly is a legendary Super Saiyan himself. The form also shows up in that movies’ sequel, Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming. The form was originally created by Toei animation studios and specifically designed by the original Dragon Ball manga author, Akira Toriyama. The legendary Super Saiyan form also appears in a number of Dragon Ball video games, including Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle , Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, Dragon Ball Fusions, and many more.
Characteristics, Usage, and Power
The Super Saiyan legendary form is an extremely rare and powerful form when compared to other forms, such as Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3, and occurs only once every one thousand years. In legendary super saiyan form, users are able to access virtually unlimited reserves of energy. During his encounter with the Z fighters, Broly in legendary Super Saiyan form is able to easily dominate Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Future Trunks while each is in their Super Saiyan forms, along with Piccolo in his super namek form.
Appearance
When a Saiyan undergoes a Super Saiyan transformation, they experience a number of drastic physical changes. In the legendary Super Saiyan form, the user’s irises and pupils vanish, leaving them with solid white eyes. Similar to virtually all other Saiyan transformations, the overall height and muscle mass of the Saiyan is greatly expanded. Furthermore, a Saiyan in the Super Saiyan legendary form has hair that is spiked upwards and gold or green in color. Legendary Super Saiyans also experience an energy aura around their bodies, similar to many other Super Saiyan forms.
Backstory
The Legendary Super Saiyan form was described in the folklore of the Saiyans as a being of immense power. In episode one hundred of Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta states that the form may be the one “true form” of the Saiyans. In the original video animation Plan to Eradicate The Saiyans , it is said that a Legendary Super Saiyan destroyed the Saiyan’s home planet. The form was created by Toei animation studio in order to create a state that was “genetically exclusive” and available to only one Saiyan. Legendary Super Saiyan can be considered a berzerk state and the maximum power version of the Super Saiyan C-type. It also falls under the category of a Super Saiyan B-type and one of the Broly type Super Saiyan forms, considered part of a different evolutionary track when compared to the “graded” forms and levels 2 and 3. Lastly, it is considered as the final form of the Super Saiyan form.
Fusions, Enhancements, and Variations
Like many other super saiyan forms, the Legendary Super Saiyan can be enhanced and has a number of variations. Karoly mixes Goku’s Super Saiyan full power form with Broly’s legendary Super Saiyan form to create a unique fusion. Also, Karoly Black fuses legendary Super Saiyan with the Super Saiyan rose form. For example, the legendary Super Saiyan form can be combined with the great ape form, which results in Broly’s version of the golden great ape form. In the Dragon Ball Xenoverse game series, Broly enhances the Legendary Super Saiyan form with dark magic and he changes color, taking on a purple hue with a purple black aura around him and black markings around his eyes.
Other Trivia
There are some contradictions relating to when exactly Legendary Super Saiyan appears. In the Frieza Saga (the second plot arc of Dragon Ball Z, it is stated by Vegeta that it has been 1,000 years since the last legendary Super Saiyan appeared, not that they appear every thousand years. In contrast, in the Shin Budokai, Goku states that the legendary Super Saiyan is a powerful warrior that appears every 1,000 years. Kale originally referred to this state as a “Berserker state” of a super saiyan. In Universe 6, the legendary Super Saiyan is actually considered to be demonic and malicious.
Therefore, this Legendary Super Saiyan state can just be the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan like Goku did against Freiza for the first time. Or this can be the berserker state that Broly achieves in his appearances in the Dragon Ball Z movies.
