Synopsis

In order to make a comeback, talent agency Manpuku Talent Production launches a new idol project…using middle-aged guys! These six guys who have endured the ups and downs of life and tasted both successes and setbacks are now aiming to overcome barriers of age and physical fortitude to become idols. Now, in order to prove that they can take on new challenges any time and always shine, it’s time for these six guys to rise!

Background

Eternal Boys is an original TV anime being produced by LIDEN FILMS (Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor, Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-, Smile of the Arsnotoria). It features migmi (Chihayafuru, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE!, Suppose a Kid From the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town) as director, with Kimiko Ueno (Carole & Tuesday, Mysterious Joker, Uchitama?! Have You Seen My Tama?) handling series composition, Seiko Asai (The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water, Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima) adapting ma2’s original character designs for animation, and Yukari Hashimoto (How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?, Komi Can't Communicate, Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Dreamy Life” by Gentlemen, and the ending theme song is “FRIENDS” by Story of Love. The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 10, 2022 on Fuji TV.

Eternal Boys

Daisuke Yamanaka (Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa)
Daisuke gained popularity as a model when he was young, but his brash behavior backfired and he was expelled from the industry. He is a middle-aged man with a strong sense of duty and responsibility who decides to support Manpuku Talent Production in appreciation to the previous company president who got him a job as a manager.

Tsuyoshi Imagawa (Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa)
Tsuyoshi made his debut as a child actor at the age of 3, and he got his break at the age of 5 after appearing in commercials. However, his work sharply declined after entering junior high. After that, he tried out singing, dancing, and enka singing, but his dream has yet to come true. He is a middle-age man who cannot give up on that dream.

Kentaro Sanada (Voiced by: Daisuke Hirakawa)
After the company he had worked at for 17 years goes bankrupt, Kentaro begins looking for new work only to be met with continued rejection. He is a middle-aged man whose life teeters on a cliff edge with his unemployment insurance nearly dried up.

Naoki Ishida (Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi)
Naoki used to work as a junior high school teacher, but he felt there was something else he wanted to do and retired. He now earns a living working part-time as a cram school teacher. He is a perfectionist and never tries anything he can’t do. He is a troublesome middle-aged man who doesn’t want to fail but also doesn’t want to have regrets.

Haru Asai (Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama)
Haru became a soccer player after graduating high school, and he stood out for his performative scoring rather than his actual ability. An injury led him to be overtaken by his peers and juniors, and at the age of 34 he was given notice that he wasn’t chosen for the roster. He is a middle-aged man who hates to lose and gets carried away easily.

Makoto Kakizaki (Voiced by: Nozomu Sasaki)
Makoto made his Kabukicho debut at the age of 18 and became the no. 1 host. After that, he had a number of favorable projects including managing hosts. He is a middle-aged man with a cool, enigmatic air who decides to become an idol when the president of Manpuku Talent Production comes calling.

Fukuko Manda (Voiced by: Yuuko Noichi)
Fukuko is the president of Manpuku Talent Production and is determined to give ManPro a comeback with the “Eternal Boys” project.

Pepechan (Voiced by: Haruka Chisuga)
Pepechan is a popular talent cat belonging to Manpuku Talent Production who has an indefinable face and supports the company.

Ren Ukita (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
Ren is a popular child actor belonging to Manpuku Talent Production who supports the company.

Nicolai Asakura (Voiced by: Hiroki Touchi)
Nicolai is a chauffier of Manpuku Talent Production who also works at the izakaya Shoppe.

Sawao is a refreshing, perfect, and charming people-pleaser and schemer.

Etsuro is the eldest of the group who has a soft, friendly, healing presence.

Renji is an athletic guy who has both a wild side and a cute side.

Ui is everyone’s older brother and is a literary guy who has written many essays.

Soki is the group’s immovable center and is a genius when it comes to singing and dancing.

Kento is a genius composer and the group’s best cultivator of diehard fans.

Nobunaga Odagiri (Voiced by: Keisuke Koumoto)
Nobunaga is 100% when it comes to smiles and lovableness, and he is a genius performer.

Sakura Kagurazaka (Voiced by: Shun Horie)
Sakura loves motorcycles more than anything and is a genius with good looks.

Chika is a cynic gifted with a genius-level intellect.
