Reproduction Artwork and More to Be Displayed - Authors of Hiroshima Work Exhibit to be Held in Hiroshima

The 15th Japan Society for Studies in Cartoons and Comics Convention will be held for the first time in Hiroshima this summer. Thirteen works by authors connected to HIroshima will be in one place for the “Hiroshima Media Arts Promotion Project - Authors of Hiroshima Work Exhibit,” which will feature reproduced artwork on display, talk shows, and more. The exhibit will be held on June 27 and 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the first floor gallery of JMS Aster Plaza in Kako-machi, Hiroshima.

Events held in Hiroshima to date include the Hiroshima International Animation Festival, a manga library, and others. There is continuous progress in the city to promote media arts related to anime and manga and train talented people.

On display at the Authors of Hiroshima Work Exhibit will be reproduction artwork from the manga Barefoot Gen by Keiji Nakazawa, which depicts the tragedies of war and is based on his experience of living through the bombing of Hiroshima. There will also be artwork on display from Yoko Kondo’s Goshiki no Fune which won Best Work in the manga category of the 18th Japan Media Arts Festival, and a display commemorating the anime adaptation of Chie Shinkyu’s Wakako Zake.

Other display works will include production materials from Fumiyo Kono’s animated film In a Corner of This World. Befitting of its title, the exhibit will also have works from other authors connected to Hiroshima including Hiroshi Asuna, Atsuko Ishida, Hiroki Ugawa, Kaiji Kawaguchi, Daisuke Nishijima, Takashi Murakami, Yutori Hojo, and Kako Mochizuki.

Along with the exhibit, several free events will also be held. On June 27, a talk show will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with manga authors Yoko Kondo and Fumiyo Kono. There will also be a live drawing by Wakako Zake author Chie Shinkyu from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. On June 28 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m., there will be a talk show with Sunao Katabuchi, director of the anime film In a Corner of This World, and attendees will also be able to participate in a manga workshop put on by the Hijiyama University Junior College Art Department.

With even more displays and related books for sale being prepared as well, the exhibit will be chock full of content.
