Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential) has just been released at the Japan Anima(tor) Expo. The Japan Anima(tor) Expo began in October of 2014, and this marks the 12th animation short released. With a new animation short released every Friday, produced by creators on the frontlines of the anime industry, this project strongly captures the interest and attention of anime fans. This week’s animation has been the topic on everyone’s lips since the release of its trailer, and the animation has turned out to be just as incredibly epic as fans expected it to be.

Shinji Aramaki is the director, scriptwriter, and storyboard artist for Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential). He has directed numerous movies, including Appleseed Alpha, which was released in January 2015. He is not only a talented director but also a mecha designer, and truly a renowned figure worldwide.

The CG director for this animation is the same man who directed the CG for Aramaki’s Appleseed Alpha, Masaru Matsumoto. He has participated in various films and game movies, and currently works under Sola Digital Arts. The design of “Another Eva” was handled by Atsushi Takeuchi, who has done mecha design for numerous titles, from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex to Guilty Crown.

In this animation short, Director Aramaki’s world of Evangelion unfolds in incredibly realistic 3D CG. The story tells of an Evangelion which was activated in another world, and while the appearance of aspects such as aircraft hangars and the setting of the world are similar, the smaller details are portrayed with an even higher degree of realism. In fact, the CG is rendered so realistically that the animation could easily be mistaken for a live movie. The design of the mecha, too, while using the Evangelion design as its underlying theme, possesses its own original qualities, and from the color palette selected arises an enhanced sense of profound power and life. The animation’s setting materials and designs have also been released, and are deeply fascinating.

On Feb. 9, Director Aramaki, Masaru Matsumoto, and Producer Tomohiko Ishii will appear on the “Japan Anima(tor) Expo Doutoresu” series broadcasted by Nico Nico Live. As they will be talking about the short, we just can’t help but be curious.

This marks the second time that a piece based off of Evangelion has been released, making us wonder in anticipation whether yet another one will come out. Let’s all look forward to the next Japan Anima(tor) Expo next release!
