The 66th Sapporo Snow Festival will begin in Sapporo, Hokkaido on Feb. 5. It will last seven days, until Feb. 11. Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion is collaborating with this traditional event. It has been confirmed that an ice sculpture of the character Kyubey will be created at the event.
The venue for the event is the Odori Nishi-Juitchome Hall. Crypton Future Media is located in Odori Nishi-Juitchome, and there will also be an ice sculpture of Snow Miku at the venue. Snow Miku is a characters based on Hatsune Miku who was introduced at the 2010 Sapporo Snow Festival. There is a new Snow Miku each year, and limited goods of the popular character are sold. This year’s Snow Miku has been introduced as “Snow Miku 2015.”
Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion is the third installment in a movie trilogy based on the 2011 anime Madoka Magica and was released in October 2013. The movie was widely talked about and became a hit, with box office earnings exceeding 2 billion yen. More than 120,000 copies of the limited edition Blu-ray have been sold, and it has charted at No. 1 on rankings of all kinds.
Aside from the ice sculptures, there will also be other Madoka Magica projects at Sapporo Snow Festival. A specially drawn collaboration illustration with Snow Miku 2015 has also been released. The visual shows Hatsune Miku dressed in Homura Akemi’s clothing and Homura dressed in an outfit similar to Miku’s. The illustration was created by the series’ chief animation director and character designer, Junichiro Taniguchi.
At the same time the Snow Festival is underway, the “Madoka Magica the Movie Shop: I Want to See You Once More…” will open in Sapporo Parco. With “Madoka Magica the Movie Orchestra Concert” also to be held at the Sapporo Education and Culture Hall on Feb. 10 and 11, Sapporo will be colored with MadoMagi.
