The movie Appleseed Alpha will release in theaters across Japan on Jan. 17, 2015. A special commercial focusing on Briareos played by Junichi Suwabe, a character who is the first love of main character Deunan, has been completed and was broadcast on Dec. 27 on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11. It was released online following this on Dec. 29.
The special commercial is 30 seconds long and shows nothing but Briareos’ cool scenes and dialogue. With Suwabe’s sexy voice, you can really appreciate the series’ charm.
Appleseed Alpha is based off of a popular manga by Masamune Shirow. Director Shinji Aramaki, who is known the world over, is returning to direct for the third time in the series and is freely uses the newest CG technology. The original work Appleseed has been considered a masterpiece for many years, but this time the story looks into previous events, so it’s perfect for those just joining the series. A highlight of the series is the relationship between main character Deunan, who is trying to save a ruined New York, and her cyborg lover Briareos.
Another point to highlight is the voice cast. Playing Deunan is Yuka Komatsu, and playing the mysterious girl Iris is Aoi Yuki. The so-called hero of the series, Briareos, is being played by hugely popular voice actor Junichi Suwabe.
The studio is aiming to release the film worldwide from the get-go, with the first postrecording being in English. However, the Japanese version won’t be a translated dub, but rather new dialogue will be created and recorded. This may be a good opportunity to to hear Suwabe’s voice, which is a cornerstone of the film, sound even sexier in theaters.
