The anime adaptation of Wataru Watanabe’s popular manga Yowamushi Pedal is going excellently. The anime was televised from October 2013 to June 2014, and it became a big hit widely supported due to the refreshing adolescence of the high schoolers in the series who compete in bicycle races.
On Sept. 27, a re-edited version of the TV series with additional footage added called Yowamushi Pedal Re:Ride began screening in theaters and attracting large amounts of moviegoers. On the other hand, Season 2 of the popular TV series, Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road, will begin on Oct. 6. Fans’ anticipation continues to climb.
On Sept. 27, the first promotional video for Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road was released. It’s about a minute and a half in length and finally depicts the passionate fight of the interhigh race. Highlights include race scenes among the three schools including main character Sakamachi’s team from Sohoku High as well as rivals Hakone Academy and Kyoto Fushimi. You can even check out the characters’ famous sayings. Flowing in the background is the Season 2 opening theme, “Determination” by LastGasp.
Theaters are also on fire due to Yowamushi Pedal. In its opening weekend, Yowamushi Pedal Re:Ride had a pleasant start in 10 theaters, making more than 50 million JPY in box office revenue. Now, it has been decided that its theater run will be extended. Beginning on Oct. 11, screenings will begin in five additional theaters: Movix Isesaki, Shizuoka Toho Kaikan, Xyst Cinema Wakayama, 109 Cinema Hiroshima, and Theatre Cinq Fukui. Now, even more fans will be able to see Yowamushi Pedal Re:Ride.
A “Huge Hit Stage Greeting” with the Hakone Academy cast was also held on Sept. 27 at Ikebukuro Humax Cinemas. Appearing on stage were Tomoaki Maeno (Junichi Fukutomi), Hiroyuki Yoshino (Yasutomo Arakita), Atsushi Abe (Toichiro Izumida), and Tsubasa Yonaga (Sangaku Manami). Many passionate fans attended, and it was an event that resounded with cheers. A discussion unfolded that centered on looking back at Season 1 and the famous white-knuckle battles.
