First Naruto Movie in Two Years to Release in December, Large-Scale Exhibit to Be Held in 2015

Fifteen years since its serialization began, Naruto’s popularity isn’t just confined to Japan, it’s worldwide. Now, a large-scale project that will run from the end of 2014 through to 2015 is set to begin. In Issue 35 of Weekly Shonen Jump on sale July 28, the start of the “Naruto Shinjidai Kaimaku Project” was announced. The project will transmit the charms of Naruto to fans and the rest of the world through various means. The first part of this project is the movie The Last: Naruto the Movie, which will release in Japan on Dec. 6.

Since 2004, a Naruto movie had been made every year. However, there was no new movie in 2013, which means the new movie’s release this December makes it the first movie in roughly two years. Because of that, expectations are high. The Last: Naruto the Movie is an original work by author Masashi Kishimoto who is also working on the movie’s character designs and is supervising the story. This will likely be big news. Information on the movie can be found on the official site and in Issue 35 of Weekly Shonen Jump. Moreover, it’s been decided that a teaser trailer for the movie will be first shown during the July 31 broadcast of the TV anime Naruto Shippuden, which broadcasts in Japan every Thursday at 19:30. This is a must-see.

In other news, an exhibit called Naruto Exhibit (tentative name) will be held next year. Although information on this is quite scarce, it is thought that it will be a large-scale exhibit or art gallery, as these have been increasing in recent years. This exhibit is also a part of the “Naruto Shinjidai Kaimaku Project.” Though it’s been 15 years since its creation, it looks like the series will continue soaring high.
