MUGENUP began streaming LIVE ON Ladder through Niconico Live and YouTube Live on May 27. LIVE ON Ladder is said to be the world’s first live-broadcast anime to use “live communicating” technology.
The anime uses a technique that takes advantage of motion capture imaging. It translates actors’ movements into the movements of anime characters in real time. Another way to put it is that the motion capture movements become real-time CG animation. It’s similar to the real-time rendering found in video games.
It’s a unique endeavor, and according to MUGENUP, it’s possible to take a brand new approach to anime using this technology. For example, you could interact with viewers through anime characters. It gives the characters a live aspect and a sense of realism.
MUGENUP already has a history of using this technology with DeNA’s Here’s the Musumejima High School Broadcasting Club. The places where this new anime technology will be used are certain to increase from here on.
The concept behind LIVE ON Ladder is that it’s an internationally popular show that the fictional OK! Global Corporation broadcasts live from Colorado. There are various other things planned in addition to the interactive element.
While connecting viewers to the world of anime in real-time, it also includes elements of a regular anime not done in real-time. Combining these elements with live communication creates a greater sense of immersion into the show’s universe.
LIVE ON Ladder is about a red ladder rumored to “stretch to the moon” that has suddenly appeared in Colorado and METRO, a battery-operated android boy who climbs it. As the world turns its attention to the mysterious ladder and the boy, the international giant OK! Global Corporation, which has exclusive live-broadcast rights, streams its coverage to Japan.
Who could have created this ladder? Who is METRO? Why does he continue to climb the ladder? These are the mysteries thrown at the viewers.
The series will continue to air starting at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday each week.
