Performances of the stage play “Blue Exorcist: Awakening the Blue Flame Arc/Kyoto’s Unclean King Arc” will begin on June 21 at Sunshine Theatre in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Characters familiar to manga and anime fans from Kazue Kato’s popular manga Blue Exorcist will be played by actors who will convey the enjoyment of live theater. The stage play’s characteristic is that it’s a double feature. The “Awakening the Blue Flame Arc” which depicts main character Okumura’s goal to become an exorcist after the death of his father and “Kyoto’s Unclean King Arc” which depicts events at True Cross Academy will be performed back to back.
Also, an interesting aspect of the stage play is the actors’ character makeup. The key to a stage play is that the actors embody the characters both inside and out. Even for the Blue Exorcist stage play, character creation is steadily advancing and will be finished off at a high level. A character visual of the “Awakening the Blue Flame Arc” stage play was released on May 10. A highlight is how complete it is.
A visual was already released at the time the stage play was first announced that shows Hiromi Sakimoto as Rin Okumura and Masahiro Inoue as Yukio Okumura. Many were no doubt surprised to see these two who look identical to their 2D counterparts. Released this time are visuals of 10 characters including Azusa Togashi as Shiemi Moriyama, Takafumi Maeuchi as Renzo Shima, Kaoru Maruwaka as Konekomaru Miwa, and Aira Nakajima as Noriko Paku.
The visuals allow for the level of perfection shown in capturing these characters to be appreciated. A cast visual for “Kyoto’s Unclean King Arc” is also forthcoming. Also, general tickets for the play will go on sale May 17.
