The animated film Patema Inverted which was just released on Nov. 9 is receiving high praise from those who have already seen it. The film is shining in the top spot of a satisfaction ranking announced by Pia taken from a poll of audience reactions after having seen the film.
Patema Inverted is the newest anime by director Yasuhiro Yoshiura, who also directed Time of Eve. Out of the nine movies polled between Nov. 8 and 9 for this ranking, Patema Inverted received the highest praise from viewers, with a satisfaction level of 91.5%.
The film is attracting a wide audience, from those in their teens to those in their 40s. Here is what some of the viewers had to say when asked about their thoughts on the film:
“I was enthralled by all the plot twists. I want to see it again!”
“The energetic story was complex and impressive. I am thoroughly satisfied.”
“After seeing Patema, I think that the world that we see can differ depending on the person, but if we can share the same mind and see the same world, we can be happy.”
Releasing at the same time and coming in at No. 2 on the poll with a satisfaction level of 90.5% was Bad Boys J the Movie: Saigo ni Mamoru Mono. At No. 3 with a satisfaction level of 89.7% was Roommate, followed by Shijūkunichi no Recipe at 89.5%, Kiyosu Kaigi at 87%, Carrie at 84.1%, My Mother at 81.4%, The Iceman at 80.4%, and Everyday at 80.2%. Even though they all received favorable responses, Patema Inverted was able to snatch the top spot.
Patema Inverted was the only animated film to be released the weekend of Nov. 8 and 9. Stage greetings were held at Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku (Tokyo), Human Trust Cinema Shibuya (Tokyo), and Keisei Rosa 10 (Chiba) on the 9th, and at Osaka Station City Cinema and Toho Cinemas Tenjin in director Yoshiura’s hometown of Fukuoka on the 10th. The film was released in 16 theaters nationwide. Due to audience reactions and satisfaction levels, this number is expected to increase.
Aside from the movie, there is another project related to Patema Inverted that is ongoing. The “Patema Inverted & Patema Inverted Another Side” exhibit is open now until Nov. 19 at Pixiv Zingaro in Nagano. A signing event with director Yoshiura will take place on Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets to this event will be given out on a first come, first served basis for those who spend more than ￥3,000 on products at the exhibit. These will be given out until 30 minutes prior to the signing event.
