With five days left until the Prefectural Tournament, Haruka and the gang are feeling the results of the training camp. Gō says she will look for a new coach to help them reach the next level, but none seem to be on board.
Later, Rin shows up suddenly at Haruka's house. There, he witnesses his father's adolescent life, and sees himself as a young boy. However, it turns out to all be Rin's bad dream. Nitori sees Rin swimming recklessly, as if to shake off some traumatic experience and asks him why he is only going to compete in the 100-meter freestyle.
On the way home from school, when passing by a shrine, Rei mentions that he want to be part of the relay team. Nagisa and Makoto are pleased to hear this, while Haruka picks a fortune and ends up only getting a "half blessing."
Rin, doing sit-ups in the dorm, tells Nitori that he's fit for the 400-meter because of his endurance. Rin then begins to talk about his father and how he was a swimmer too before he became a fisherman and died in a accident. He reveals that the reason he started swimming was to fulfill the dreams of his father. Rin says that this is why he cannot forgive Haruka for letting his talent go to waste.
The day of the tournament, Rin stands before the Matsuoka family grave and promises his father that he will win. Meanwhile, the members of Iwatobi Swim Club arrive at the tournament. Only Rei seems to be nervous.
Haruka and Rin have a heated exchange in the hallway before the match starts. Rin beats Haruka with overwhelming speed. Losing in the preliminaries, Haruka vows never to race Rin again.
Finally it's settled between Rin and Haruka, but how will the rest of the Iwatobi Swim Club fair in their matches? What will become of Rin and Haruka's relationship? We can't wait to see how this turns out.
