As the Attack on Titan manga series by Hajime Isayama and its anime adaptation produced by Wit Studio became a worldwide success, several books and guides based on the Attack on Titan universe were written and published.

Attack on Titan INSIDE Kou

Attack on Titan INSIDE Kou is the first official guidebook of the series. It was published in August 2013 in only released in Japan. This guidebook contains 192 pages and is divided into five sections.

It includes exclusive interviews with Hajime Isayama, the editor of the series, and the staff of the anime adaptation. There are also several pieces of concept art from both the anime and an entire 16 pages of manga concept material that is in full color. A guide of the characters is also included along with some new, original art by Isayama. The guidebook also contains a papercraft kit that will allow those that purchase the book to create their own Colossal Titan head. Finally, the book holds the original 54-page, never-before-seen Attack on Titan one-shot manga.

Attack on Titan OUTSIDE Osamu / Attack on Titan Guidebook

Attack on Titan OUTSIDE Osamu is the second official guide book from the Attack on Titan series and was released in September 2013. It contains 184 pages and it is entirely written in Japanese. It includes a wealth of information regarding the series and includes the following: a long-form interview and a Q&A with Hajime Isayama, production materials for the anime adaptation, analyses of equipment used in the series, a message from the editor of the manga, information on major characters, drafts of Eren Jaeger’s Titan transformations, a guide to Titans and a “Titanpedia”, and an incomplete rough draft of the original manga.

After the releases of both the INSIDE and OUTSIDE guidebooks, they were compiled and translated into English and simply titled the Attack on Titan Guidebook. This book was published by Kodansha Comics USA and released on September 16th, 2014.

Attack on Titan: The Anime Guide

Attack on Titan: The Anime Guide is the official guidebook of the Attack on Titan anime series. It was written by Hajime Isayama and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. Kodansha Comics licensed this book for its English publication and it was released in April 2017.

This official guidebook includes the following:

  • An interview with Hajime Isayama and director Tetsuro Araki. Within this interview, they reveal a surprise about Eren and Armin.

  • A detailed explanation about the universe of Attack on Titan, from the characters to the weapons they use, to all the Titans.

  • Exclusive interviews with the voice cast and musicians that participated in the creation of the original Japanese dub and soundtrack on the anime series.

  • Four special-edition postcards.

Attack on Titan ANSWERS

Attack on Titan ANSWERS is the third official guidebook of the Attack on Titan manga series. It was published on August 9, 2016 in Japan.
It contains additional interviews with Isayama, maps of the areas seen in the world of Attack on Titan, sets of “Current Publicly Available Information”, “IF illustrations”, content from the “au SmartPass” application, and papercrafts of the Armored Titan and Female Titan.

Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia

Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia is the fourth official guidebook of the Attack on Titan manga series. It was published on August 8, 2017 in Japan. This guidebook contains explanations of over 200 characters within the series, including Eren and the rest of the 104th Training Corps, to the citizens that live within the Walls and beyond. Profiles of the main characters include their birthdates, heights, and other information like catchphrases and so on. The Nine Titans are also explained in this guidebook. The book contains their respective powers and abilities, among other information. There is also a guide to some of the characters that live outside the Walls. Finally, there is an interview with Isayama, where he reveals the inspiration behind some of his characters.

Attack on Titan Story Guide

Attack on Titan Story Guide is the fifth official guidebook of the Attack on Titan manga series and was published on April 9, 2019. It covers the plot and characters from Volumes 1 to 22 of the manga and explains all the Attack on Titan arcs covered from Season 1 to Season 3 of the anime adaptation. This guidebook, like those that came before it, also includes an exclusive interview with Hajime Isayama.

The Science of Attack on Titan

The Science of Attack on Titan is a book written by Rikao Yanagita, the head of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Science Research Institute of Tokyo University and author of several other books related to science in science fiction. In this book, Yanagita explores the theoretical scientific aspects of the Titans and the technology used by the characters of the Attack on Titan series.
