Gigantic “Aquarion Evol” Rhythm Game Appears in Shinjuku

In celebration of it being 10 years since the Aquarion series began broadcasting, a surprise event will be coming to Shinjuku, Tokyo. An Aquarion Evol rhythm game called “Kindan Gattai Otogerion” (Forbidden Union Otogerion) will appear in Shinjuku Station.

“Forbidden Union Otogerion” is a gigantic rhythm game that uses an entire wall. It will be installed in the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shinjuku Station Metro Promenade for one week from Oct. 12–18, with the plan being to surprise passersby.

Aquarion Evol is a popular anime that was broadcast in 2012. The talked-about series welcomed Shoji Kawamori as chief director and Mari Okada as series composer and is still highly popular today. What is particularly worth noting regarding “Forbidden Union Otogerion” is its immensity—it stretches across a wall 14.56 meters (47.77 feet) by 2.15 meters (7.05 feet). The machine boasts 3D parts 4 meters in size and is the first of its size in Japan for a rhythm game for advertising. It seems many passersby on their way to or from somewhere will have the chance to enjoy playing it.

The game plays at random two songs from the series: a rearranged version of the theme song to Genesis of Aquarion, “Genesis of Aquarion (With My Brother),” and the opening theme of Aquarion Evol, “Kimi no Shinwa - Aquarion Dai Ni Sho.” Players push buttons along with the rhythm and are scored on “Union Success” for perfect timing. Players compete for the highest Union Success ratio and score at the end of the game.

Because there will be a ranking of all players, it may be a project that gains considerable attention from gamers. While playing, the game also incorporates from the anime the familiar union scenes and special attack moves, exciting players from a production standpoint too. From 10:00 a.m. each day of the installation, players who successfully complete the “forbidden union” will receive a limited clear file as a present.

There is also a smartphone version of “Forbidden Union Otogerion” available now on a special site for Fever Aquarion Evol. In addition to the two songs from the Shinjuku Station installation, players can also enjoy an exclusive song, “Kouya no Heath.”
