Candy Themed Anime “Dagashi Kashi” Tops Winter 2016 Anime Ranking

Media site Anime!Anime! recently polled readers regarding the winter 2016 anime season. A survey was held asking readers what they think of the new anime they’ve been watching that began this month. Readers were able to choose through free answer which anime they’re currently watching and which ones they plan on watching. Maybe from the answers we’ll get a peek at any trends catching on with anime fans for the winter 2016 season. Let’s take a look at the top 10 results.

A total of 925 readers answered the survey. Of respondents, 60% were male and 40% female. Many were also of the younger generation, with more than half being in their teens.

■ Top Spot Goes to Dagashi Kashi, at No. 2 is Boku Dake ga Inai Machi

At No. 1 is Dagashi Kashi. From the result, we can see that it’s been captivating viewers, and it’s being watched by more than half of the survey respondents (51%). Even the original manga, currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday, is gaining high acclaim and four tankobon volumes have been published so far.

At No. 2 is Boku Dake ga Inai Machi, which was chosen by 50% of respondents. According to the results, both the first and second place anime are watched by 1 in 2 anime fans. With a live-action movie set to be released in March, Boku Dake ga Inai Machi is becoming well-known not just with anime fans but also general viewers as well. Its high popularity is likely the reason for its high ranking.

At No. 3 is Myriad Colors Phantom World. It’s the newest anime by popular anime studio Kyoto Animation. The series comes after their 2015 hits High Speed! Free! Starting Days and Sound! Euphonium and is gaining acclaim.

At No. 4 is the second season of Assassination Classroom. The series is understandably highly popular due to its wide developments that include more than just anime. Continuing at No. 5 is Ajin, and fans welcomed the long-awaited TV series following the release of the theatrical anime in November 2015.
