The TV anime Durarara!! is finally returning five years after its six-month broadcast that began in January 2010. It was announced that the new season, Durarara!! x2, will begin broadcasting in January 2015.
A new visual has also been released well before the start of the broadcast and information on the new staff has been revealed. The new visual shows the familiar characters Mikado, Masaomi, and Anri. The visual gives the feeling that preparations are underway for the early 2015 broadcast.
The original work to Durarara!! is a popular novel series by Ryōgo Narita that is published by Dengeki Bunko. There are 13 volumes in the series along with spin-offs including the new chapter Durarara!! SH, and the series is a bestseller with over 5 million copies sold. Recently released on Aug. 9 is Durarara!! Gaiden?! which includes a specially written short story. Also, the release of the all-new PS Vita game Durarara!! Relay is slated for January 2015 as well.
With the production of the new season underway, staff from Season 1 are returning to participate including director Takahiro Omori, series composer Noboru Takagi, character designer Takahiro Kishida, and composer Makoto Yoshimori. These members returning from last season for this new season should be good news for fans. It seems the quality from Season 1 will be seen again.
On the other hand, newly added staff members have also been announced. A prominent name on this list also comprised mainly of names of staff members from the previous season is chief animation director Akira Takata. Fans can look forward to the January broadcast.
It has also been revealed that there will be a Durarara!! stage event at Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival 2014 to be held on Oct. 5. The event will take place on the second floor of the UDX building in Akihabara from 11:00 - 11:40 a.m. Performing will be Toshiyuki Toyonaga and Miyuki Sawashiro. A mini stage event will also be held on the same day at Bellesalle Akihabara.
